THAT TIME of year has come around again when buying Christmas gifts becomes top of the to do list, and purchasing Fairtrade products is something to be considered.
To raise awareness of Fairtrade during the festive season, Alexander’s bar in Rufus Court is hosting a Christmas-themed live music night for residents to find out more about Fairtrade products.
Ashley Jones, sustainable development officer for Cheshire West and Chester Council said: ‘‘Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.
‘‘Fair trade seeks to transform the lives of poor producers in the developing world by enabling them to use their skills and resources to trade their way out of poverty. It is important to raise awareness of Fairtrade throughout the year but especially at Christmas as it gives consumers the chance to make an informed decision when purchasing gifts to look for the Fairtrade mark.’’
The event will offer a range of Fairtrade Christmas market stalls with products from And Albert, Luna Tree Jewellery and Chester Fair Trading, as well as live music from The Deportees, an acoustic trio whose music includes Root Chords, Tuesday Unplugged and The Doghouse Roses.
There will be an opportunity to purchase Fairtrade groceries, toys, jewellery, clothing and craft items.
The event is free to enter and will take place this Wednesday December 11 at 7pm with live music from 8pm so go along and make this Christmas a Fairtrade Christmas.
